Efficient data entry is critical in industries with data-intensive workflows, such as accounting. This paper investigates the challenges faced by accounting professionals due to a lack of keyboard accessibility customised for data entry and other data operations in enterprise platforms, using the automotive retail industry as an example. Keyboard accessibility plays a significant role in optimising these workflows, by enhancing navigation on common interfaces for accounting, and performing operations using short-cut keys. By using research methodologies such as user behaviour analysis, and competitive assessment, as well as studying existing research on best practices for design of keyboard usage in computing, the study proposes a design framework for keyboard accessibility, customised for accounting workflows, that can be adapted to various data-intensive industries. Using Tekion’s Automotive Retail Cloud as an illustrative case, the research demonstrates how optimising keyboard navigation improves workflow efficiency, resulting in substantial saving of time and enhanced accessibility. The proposed solution saved up to 3 h per week for an accounting clerk while paving the way for scalable, inclusive design practices across complex enterprise applications.

摘要
