This chapter presents the analysis, design, and construction of Penghu, China's first semi-submersible, wave-energy-powered aquaculture platform. Penghu is a notable example of an integrated offshore aquaculture farm and ocean renewable energy systems, powered by a combination of 60 kW Sharp Eagle wave energy converters (WECs) and 60 kW solar photovoltaic units. The platform features an internal pool with a volume of approximately 11,000 m3 for finfish farming, along with a spacious deck for aquaculture equipment. Based on Penghu, the interactions between Sharp Eagle WEC and semi-submersible aquaculture platform are analyzed to enhance understanding of the potential and challenges of co-locating aquaculture and renewable energy systems. The Penghu project offers valuable insights and serves as a reference for advancing offshore aquaculture and expanding wave energy generation technology.
