Strategic Networks for Sustainable Cultural Heritage Tourism Development in Hue Province, Vietnam
摘要
The balance between tourism development and heritage preservation is a critical concern for cultural heritage destinations, made possible through the broad involvement of diverse stakeholders. This chapter provides a case study of stakeholder networks effectively working for sustainable tourism development of a cultural heritage destination. It is framed by actor-network theory, using qualitative methods of document analysis, interviews, and observations, conducted at the Hue heritage site in Central Vietnam. Findings reveal three networks operating to foster economic growth of tourism development while reviving intangible cultural heritage and decentralising tourism activities in the Hue monuments. The achievement of these goals helps to preserve cultural heritage and ensure the economic benefit of tourism development at the heritage site. This case underscores crucial characteristics of strategic vision and direction of destination governance to achieve sustainable tourism at cultural heritage destinations through mobilising the collective actions of various stakeholders.
