This chapter delves into the enduring significance of Jawi, a transliterated Arabic script with deep historical roots in the Malay World, and its role in promoting Brunei's cultural heritage through the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (YSHHB) Islamic Calligraphy and Arts Study Centre. Employing (Bourdieu, Poetics 14:13–44, 1985) symbolic value of goods concept and (Scott, Geogr Ann Ser B 92:115–130, 2010) creative fields for creative cities, this chapter explores Jawi's cultural capital functions as an artefact and contribution towards conservation that bridges the present and the past. Its conservation fosters a sense of cultural identity and continuity loaded with substantial value while simultaneously propelling Brunei's ascension into a creative city through creativity and innovation. This chapter uncovers the pivotal role of Jawi script in safeguarding Brunei's cultural heritage, ultimately shaping the identity of a creative city, with YSHHB playing a centrifugal role. It also sheds light on the nuanced balance between the commodification of cultural and heritage products and their conservation through contemporary consumerism while conserving the essence of Jawi within the confines of sustainability.
