Railway Heritage Attractiveness and Sustainability in the Tourist and Cultural Offer of the Destination(s)
摘要
The main objective of this study is to understand whether the tourist and cultural offer of a destination—a city located in the center of Portugal (Tomar), is an attraction for visitors, as it has a station and railway heritage. This work was, therefore, based on collecting information about the city’s tourist and cultural offers that most contribute to the city’s attractiveness, development, and sustainability, as a cultural and tourist destination. To this end, a questionnaire was prepared, and the quantitative analysis methodology was applied (n = 86, from March 28 to April 31, 2024). The results lead to three main practical implications: (1) the city of Tomar has a “sufficient and favorable” cultural and tourist offer to attract visitors; (2) the tourist and cultural development of the city of Tomar is important, attributing the “merit” of its development to visitors, the surrounding area and the local community, and (3) the accessibility of the city is considered an element of attractiveness, quite positive since the city, in addition to having a railway station (favoring the mobility of visitors via train), also has a Certificate of Accessibility, considered a recognition for the dynamics of its cultural and tourist offer.
