This paper proposes the simplified model predictive current control method based on enumeration technique for a battery and supercapacitor hybrid system. The enumeration based MPC method (EMPCC) is used as current control loop and the proportional-integral (PI) control method is used for DC link voltage balancing for hybrid energy storage system (HESS). The cascaded control approach is used in which PI control generates current reference for voltage balancing. While EMPCC is used for current reference tracking. The proposed EMPCC is easy to design and computationally less intensive. Moreover, the dynamic performance of the system is improved. The experimental study is presented to validate the superiority of EMPCC method for HESS compared with conventional control methods.
