Innovative PVDF and Cu-PVDF Yarn-Based Piezoelectric Fabric Sensors for Knee Motion Electrosignal Monitoring

Fabric-based piezoelectric sensors offer superior flexibility and stretchability, meeting the growing demand for wearable electronics. This research reports on a fabric-based piezoelectric sensor. It is constructed from PVDF yarns and Cu-PVDF yarns, woven together using a loom. Exceptional mechanical strain-to-voltage signal responsiveness is demonstrated in practical performance tests. Clearly distinguished are varying mechanical pressures and different friction directions, generating distinct voltage signals accordingly. Moreover, in experiments measuring knee joint motion signals, it also demonstrates excellent signal responsiveness. Discerned by the sensor are 30° and 90° knee flexion, as well as the gait states of walking and running. This fabric sensor offers a novel solution for monitoring knee joint movements and exhibits significant potential in the fields of human motion and health monitoring.
