Natural Frequency Behavior of Composite Laminated Plates with an Extended Finite Element Approach

This work analyzes the free vibrations of composite laminated plate with a crack using third-order shear deformation theory (TSDT) and the extended finite element approach (XFEM). The composite laminated plate is generally subjected to transverse shear loading and experiences vibration during service conditions. Due to vibration, cracks can be triggered and propagate from high-stress regions of the structure. For crack modeling in the laminate plate structure, an extended finite element formulation is created. An in-depth study is conducted on the developed formulation to examine the impact of fracture on free vibration under simply supported conditions.
