People-Centered Approach, Urban Innovation, and the SDGs
摘要
In the opening chapter, the focus is on the crucial role of innovation centered around people in attaining sustainable urban development, underscoring the significance of local initiatives and community-based approaches. Through an examination of 15 international case studies submitted for the 6th Guangzhou International Award for Urban Innovation, the chapter sheds light on how cities and communities worldwide are utilizing grassroots innovations to tackle urban challenges and contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations. Each case study presents a distinct strategy for improving urban resilience, inclusivity, and sustainability, showcasing the effectiveness of tailored solutions that cater to the specific needs and circumstances of local communities. The section emphasizes the importance of community involvement, cooperation, and flexibility as crucial elements for successful people-centered urban innovation. By drawing from these examples, the section offers practical insights for policymakers, urban planners, and community leaders, advocating for the adoption of localized approaches that prioritize the well-being and empowerment of residents. By deepening our comprehension of the impact of people-centered innovation, this section makes a valuable contribution to the global dialogue on sustainable urban development and the establishment of resilient, inclusive, and dynamic cities.
