This paper addresses the rising trend of mobile applications aimed at improving the lives of visually impaired individuals. We present our work on a mobile application designed to assist visually impaired users in reading the seven-segment digits displayed on electrical appliances. The app combines text detection and recognition processes, utilizing Google ML Kit for text recognition and ParseQ for recognizing seven-segment digits. Feedback from 13 visually impaired testers is presented, with them emphasizing the need for accessibility features and user experience enhancements, such as voice guidance for all application buttons, color contrast considerations, and strategic label placement.
