The journey of research within the landscape of Catholic education today is complex and multi-faceted. The challenge for both researcher and supervisor is to maintain clarity of purpose with acute awareness of context. This chapter, using the author’s experience as both a researcher and a supervisor steps the beginning researcher through the journey, highlighting the key elements of structure and challenge. From the stirring of dissonance to the articulation of findings, the key points of the research journey are illustrated with the writer’s own research. Set out in three parts, the first section deals with the ‘Why?’ question of research. The second section unpacks the research journey. The chapter concludes with practical advice for the beginning researcher.
