Advice to Doctoral Students Researching Catholic Education
摘要
This chapter responds to an initial question about which three pieces of advice could be offered to a doctoral student researching in the field of Catholic education. It is based on the experience of doing my own PhD in Catholic theology and education fifteen years ago and from insights gained through supervising and examining research dissertations from Catholic postgraduate and doctoral students across the UK, Ireland and Australia. Three aspects are presented as noteworthy for those undertaking doctoral study; these are the interdisciplinary, positionality, and dialogical components of Catholic educational research. The chapter considers the significance and practical consequences of each component in turn, before concluding with how they feature prominently in recent magisterial statements on Catholic education.
