A dual-band monopole antenna with coplanar waveguide feed, with artificial magnetic conductor as reflector has been designed and simulated using CST Microwave Studio. The antenna operates effectively at 3.5 GHz with the integration of AMC it operates at one additional band 1.5 GHz for L-Band applications. The antenna is designed using Rogers RT5880LZ having a relative permittivity of 2 and a loss tangent of 0.0021 with defected ground plane on the other side of the substrate. AMC unit cell having concentric ring structure is designed on the same substrate as used in the antenna. The antenna’s performance parameters reflection coefficient gain and backward radiation show improved results along with minimization of antenna size making it suitable for applications in the ISM band and GPS.
