Effects of Municipal Incineration Bottom Ash from Different Incineration Plants on the Engineering Properties of Low-Density Recycled Pervious Concrete

In this study, the Municipal Incinerator Bottom Ash (MIBA) was applied to the Low-Density Recycled Pervious Concrete (LRPC) to investigate the effects of MIBA from three different incineration plants in Taichung City, Tawan, with different substitution amounts on the engineering properties of LRPC. First, the differences in MIBA from the three different incineration plants in Taichung City, Taiwan, including Wuri Incineration Plant, Houli Incineration Plant, and Wenshan Incineration Plant, were analyzed through the tests of specific gravity, water absorption rate, abrasion test, SEM, XRD, and TCLP. Afterward, the substitution amounts of MIBA were set as 0%, 10%, 20%, and 30% for LRPC, and the effects of MIBA from the three incineration plants in Taichung City, Taiwan, with different substitution amounts were evaluated, including the compressive strength, porosity, water permeability, unit weight, and chlorine content of the LRPC. The results of the study showed that the water absorption rate and the abrasion rate of MIBA were higher than that of natural coarse particles, and the MIBA with the highest water absorption rate among the three-incineration plant was Wuri Incineration Plant and the MIBA with the best abrasion resistance was obtained from Wenshan Plant. According to the TCLP test, it was found that the amount of heavy metal dissolved in the MIBA of all three incineration plants in Taichung City meets the standard of reusing. The compressive strength and water permeability of LRPC decreased with the increase of MIBA substitution, while the use of MIBA from all incineration plants did not significantly affect the compressive strength of LRPC. It was also found that using incineration slag from the Wuri Incineration Plant would improve water permeability. Considering the engineering properties of LRPC, it was recommended that the substitution amount of different MIBA for LRPC should be at 20%.
