Treatment and Recycling of Tungsten Ore Flotation Wastewater

Flotation serves as the primary beneficiation method for tungsten ore, generating a significant volume of wastewater in the process. Due to the presence of various pollutants in this wastewater, it often requires appropriate treatment to meet discharge standards or facilitate recycling. This chapter begins by analyzing the wastewater generation in tungsten ore beneficiation, offering a systematic overview of the key pollutants influencing the treatment of tungsten ore flotation wastewater. These pollutants include sodium silicate, suspended solids, and chemical oxygen demand (COD). Subsequently, corresponding removal technologies are introduced. For sodium silicate and suspended solids, due to the dispersion effect of sodium silicate, it is highlighted that removing sodium silicate first is beneficial for the subsequent elimination of suspended solids. For COD removal, the principle of “mass treatment and classification recycling” is suggested to conserve flotation agents and alleviate the pressure of wastewater treatment. Finally, the simple, effective, and cost-efficient treatment process of typical tungsten ore flotation wastewater is introduced. For wastewater primarily containing fatty acid collectors, treatment with industrial waste acid rich in calcium chloride, followed by chemical precipitation, is recommended. Meanwhile, for wastewater dominated by metal–organic complex reagent, the raw pulp coagulation technology has been proposed.
