Application of a Guide Vane with an Oval Cross-Section at a 90° Pipe Bend to Increase Hydraulic Energy Efficiency in the Flow of the Pipe

This study uses the RANS equation of state computation to use fluid, incompressible, and turbulent flow under 90º pipe bend conditions with a guide vane. Two turbulence models were used in this analysis: which is named the k-ε turbulence model with a mesh of the constant Reynolds number at 60,000. The curvature ratio (Bend radius ratio) value against changes in fluid flow properties has been considered a factor in this study. The diameter of the 90º pipe bend used in this study is 0.01m with variations of Rc/D = 1.5, Rc/D = 1.75, and Rc/D = 2. The findings from this research have been illustrated through the use of graphs. The computational and experimental results show that there is agreement in between. Using a guide vane possessing an oval cross-section has been proven to increase the efficiency of hydraulic pipe bends. The results can be seen by the velocity profile value, which is more significant than the baseline. Overall, it can be concluded that using a guide vane with an oval cross-section can provide good results.
