Experimental Study of Seawater Evaporation Rate Utilizing a Forced Convection System

Evaporation is a fundamental phenomenon in heat and mass transfer, with applications ranging from hydrology and agronomy to meteorology, swimming pools, cooling ponds, water purification, and various industries. Despite its widespread importance, an exact equation for water evaporation rate remains elusive. Numerous experimental correlations and theoretical expressions have been proposed over time, but discrepancies persist. This study aims to compare the evaporation rate coefficients proposed by Carrier, Himus and Hinchley, Carl Rohwer, Lurie and Michailoff, Smith, Al-Shammiri, Tang, Jodat, Inan, and Shah against experimental data. The objective is to identify the coefficient with the smallest percentage error for predicting seawater evaporation rates forced convection. Results are showed in graphical form and the lowest percentage errors occur at wind speeds of 0.5 m/s, with Jodat’s formula yielding the best performance.
