Natural zeolites from mines in the Tasikmalaya region of Indonesia were studied to enhance their properties for catalytic applications in the pyrolysis process. The study focused on measuring the morphological structure, porosity, and Si/Al ratio. Initially, activation and modification of the zeolites were performed using HCl solutions with concentrations of 2, 4, and 6 M to improve these properties. Following modification, the zeolites underwent characterization to ascertain their chemical composition, employing Scanning Electron Microscopy—Energy Dispersive X-ray (SEM-EDX) analysis. The results indicated that the Si/Al ratio increased with higher HCl concentrations: 6.30 for 2 M, 7.05 for 4 M, and 11.59 for 6 M. Additionally, the morphology of the natural zeolite was found to be cubic in shape. Based on these findings, the modified natural zeolites demonstrate enhanced potential as catalysts for pyrolysis applications due to their improved elemental composition and crystalline structure.
