The property of concrete by virtue of which it can be placed, compacted, and finished well to give different shapes and sizes of various structural elements is known as workability. The rheology is the scientific measure of workability. To reduce consumption and production of cement, the use of various waste stream materials (WSMs) is being encouraged to be used as supplementary materials (SM) for part replacement of cement. On inclusion of WSMs, the rheological behavior of concrete varies greatly from the traditional concrete depending on their physical and chemical properties. Depending on the different locations of concrete placement, the requirement of rheological properties of concrete also varies. As such there is a need of rheological study on concrete using SMs. This paper presents the rheological behavior of concrete made of ferrochrome ash (FrA). For this purpose, a concrete mixture that contained 40% of FrA, 7% hydraulic lime dust (HLD), and 53% of 43 grade-ordinary Portland cement (OPC) was considered. Five types of water-to-binder ratios (W/B) like 0.40, 0.45, 0.50, 0.55, and 0.60 were adopted in the study. The rheology of concrete prepared with SM and without SM was noted in terms of slump values. Corresponding compressive strengths also were also observed. Further study was also done on the requirement of various dosages of superplasticizer (SP) for preparation of a pumpable concrete of 100 mm slump concerning W/B 0.40, 0.45, 0.50, 0.55, and 0.60. The results indicated with increased W/B from 0.4 to 0.6, the workability increased more than two times but strength reduced up to 22%. The inclusion of SP 1.25–0.25% to W/B 0.45–0.60 made the concrete pumpable and contributed a little toward development of strength.
