This chapter reviews the negotiations on a bilateral investment treaty (BIT) between China and the US that were launched in 2008 but terminated later. The chapter tries to examine the international background for the resumption of the negotiations in 2012. It also examines the convergences reached and the divergences still existed between the two countries. It analyzes the most difficult issue that is national treatment. When the proposed BIT was almost concluded, it was disregarded eventually in 2015 when Mr. Donald Trump was elected to be the President of the US.
