Short-Duration GRBs from Magnetic Reconnection in Cosmic Strings Wakes
摘要
Magnetic reconnection in magnetized wakes of cosmic strings result in the release of a large amount of energy. This energy is released in a short period of time. In this work, we show that this sudden release of energy can result in a Gamma Ray Burst (GRB) of short duration. Since the magnetic reconnection is followed by the generation of shocks in the string wake, we calculate the fluence and the burst duration for the resulting GRB from the collision of these shocks. The BATSE data indicates that short GRB’s can be related to a large energy release from a compact emission region. We show that short duration GRB’s originating from magnetic reconnection in cosmic string wakes are consistent with the BATSE data.
