Optimization Method for High-Orbit Multi-Satellite Joint Observation Based on Orthogonal Field of View Configuration

This paper presents an optimization method for high-orbit multi-satellite joint observation, focusing on enhancing the coverage efficiency and total duration of effective continuous observation of the Earth’s surface for the high-orbit optical remote sensing satellites. The proposed strategy orthogonally configures the field of view directions of adjacent satellites, optimizing task assignments to ensure that at any given time, at least one satellite’s yaw direction meets both coverage shape requirements and shading benefits. The paper includes a detailed analysis of the optimization strategy, demonstrating its effectiveness through examples of dual-satellite joint observation of single and multiple swath areas. The results show that the orthogonal configuration of the field of view can significantly increase the workable duration compared to conventional identical field of view configurations.
