This paper introduces the first domestically developed top drive system with a rated capacity of 11,250 kN. The top drive features a maximum working torque of 145 kN m, a rated power of 2200 kW, a rated load of 11,250 kN, and a nominal drilling depth of 15,000 m. It incorporates design solutions such as an overall symmetrical layout, dual lifting rings plus dual load paths, AC variable frequency drive, dual-motor single-stage reduction, gear locking mechanism, an automatically lifting annular back-up wrench, and an adjustable guiding carriage. The main technical parameters of this top drive are superior to those of internationally renowned top drives of the same specification. The design of this top drive places greater emphasis on redundancy and the convenience of component replacement, and has actively tried and explored in the areas of digitization, intelligence, and greening. The successful development of this top drive has filled a gap in China’s technology field for super-large top drive equipment, providing strong support for the advancement of China’s oil and gas exploration into the ten-thousand-meter deep strata.
