The Technology of Wall Strengthening Oil-Base Drilling Fluid in the Upper Wuerhe Formation in Manan

The stratigraphic conditions of the Upper Wuerhe Formation in Manan, Junggar Basin exhibit a high degree of complexity. The inherent limitations pertaining to rock bonding strength and micro-fracture throat plugging performance associated with conventional oil-based drilling fluid often result in compromised wellbore stability of the Upper Wuerhe Formation in Manan, Junggar Basin. The cementing micro-nano sealer XZ-CNP was synthesized through emulsion polymerization. Characterization analysis revealed the presence of oleophilic hydrophilic groups in XZ-CNP, imparting amphiphilic properties to the material. The microstructure exhibits a spherical morphology ranging from 0.6 to 2 μm, while demonstrating excellent thermal stability. Based on XZ-CNP, a borehole reinforced oil-based drilling fluid system was developed. The oil-based drilling fluid exhibits exceptional temperature resistance up to 200 ℃ and demonstrates resistance against various contaminants including 20% water, 20% composite brine, 5% calcium sulfate, and 10% evaluation soil invasion. Moreover, the micro and nano pores exhibit remarkable sealing performance enabling effective pressure sealing of sand disks with pore sizes ranging from 3 to 90 μm while enhancing rock compressive strength and cohesion. By employing a cemented micro-nano sealing strategy with exceptional micro-nano porosity sealing performance and effective bonding of rock mineral particles, the wellbore wall rock strength was enhanced, enabling an extension of the inclined section length to 3250 m. Consequently, the average rate of penetration (ROP) reached 8.53 m/h, exhibiting minimal construction friction and ensuring high-quality hole formation. Moreover, successful completion electrical measurement and casing running were achieved in a single attempt without encountering any complications throughout the entire well section. The aforementioned development has significantly contributed to the achievement of objectives pertaining to enhancing efficiency, reducing costs, and expediting drilling operations in the Upper Wuerhe Formation in Manan.
