India’s pledge to achieve net zero emissions by 2070 at COP27 shows that the nation understands the urgency of addressing its huge carbon footprint. The building industry, which accounts for a startling 19% of India’s total emissions, is one of the main sources of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Beyond GHG emissions, the construction industry has a substantial influence on air pollution (23%), climate change (50%), water pollution (40%), and landfill trash (50%). Thus, exploring sustainable construction materials that can lessen these problems and support the objective of achieving net-zero emissions is crucial given the construction industry’s significant contribution to carbon emissions and environmental deterioration. Compressed Stabilised Earth Blocks (CSEBs), which have become a cheaper and sustainable option in the building industry, are one such approach. The purpose of this research paper is to examine the possibilities of CSEBs use as a sustainable construction material in order to achieve net-zero emission. In-depth analysis of CSEBs, including their composition, manufacturing method, environmental advantages, possibility for achieving net-zero emissions, and the lacuna related to its adoption is discussed. The paper also discusses the advantages CSEBs has on the environment and emphasizes on how CSEBs can help the building sector achieve net-zero emissions. Buildings made of CSEBs may be able to reach net-zero emissions by fusing the sustainable qualities of CSEBs with renewable energy sources, such as solar panels. The paper does, however, also address the difficulties that come with the broad use of CSEBs and also recommends ways to get beyond these obstacles. India and the rest of the world may advance towards meeting their climate targets while also encouraging ecologically friendly building techniques by embracing sustainable alternatives like CSEBs.
