Porous concrete is a mixture of cement, water and coarse aggregates. The fine aggregate component in the concrete mix is not added to prepare porous concrete mixes. It is a type of light weight concrete characterized by near zero slump. Porous concrete is a sustainable construction material that can be adopted for ground water recharge, storm water runoff drainage and noise absorption related applications. The built-in void spaces in porous concrete allow the passage of air and water. The voids in porous concrete are influenced by the coarse aggregate particle size and shape. The mechanical properties of the porous concrete mix are influenced by the type and properties of coarse aggregate material used in preparation of the mix. The paper presents laboratory procedure of mix design, manufacture and testing of porous concrete mixes.
