The pharyngoesophageal region forms the proximal part of the gastrointestinal system. The pharynx can be examined both by ENT surgeons and gastroenterologists, using the endoscope. Radiological investigations consist of barium studies and cross-sectional imaging. In this chapter, we will consider the anatomy as well as techniques used to evaluate this region of the gastrointestinal tract.
