High energy consumption, low energy utilization efficiency, and suboptimal economic performance are prevalent challenges in natural gas purification within gas fields. In this paper, a natural gas purification plant energy management and control system is established with the support of information technology and Internet of Things technology to address the aforementioned issues. Based on the analysis of the production scale, process characteristics, and energy consumption of the natural gas purification plant, the overall architecture, network deployment architecture, and functional architecture of the energy management and control system are designed. The practical application of the energy management and control system in analysis level for natural gas purification plant is elaborated in detail. In addition, a comparative analysis is conducted on the energy-saving effects and economic profits of the natural gas purification plant before and after the system application. The following research results are obtained. The energy management and control system can accurately reflect the energy consumption characteristics of the natural gas purification plant, meeting the needs of energy management and control work. The energy management and control system in analysis level includes several major functional modules, such as energy consumption cockpit, energy consumption inquiry, online monitoring, comparative analysis, early warning and alarm, energy efficiency benchmarking and so on. It realizes the effective measurement of energy consumption, real-time monitoring of energy consumption status, alarming of energy performance parameters over threshold, effective analysis of energy efficiency level, and reasonable resolution of main energy consumption problems. After the energy management and control system is put into operation, the comprehensive energy consumption per 104m3 of natural gas purification production decreases from 138.20 to 127.47 kgce/104m3, and the annual comprehensive economic benefit of natural gas purification plant adds up to 16.31 million RMB. The construction and application of energy management and control system greatly improves scientific and refined level of energy management in natural gas purification plant, and powerfully promotes green and low-carbon development of gas field enterprises by energy consumption reducing, cost cutting, emission controlling, quality improving and benefit increasing.
