Study of Liquefaction Potential Based on Earthquake Deaggregation Map 2022 in Cilacap, Indonesia

Cilacap is one of the most pivotal cities on the southern side of Indonesia, referring to the number of vital infrastructures, including oil refineries, power plants, cement industries, and international ports. However, this area is located in a prone natural disaster zone such as earthquakes, tsunami, and liquefaction pertaining to the proximity of tectonic plate subduction. Considering the potential expansion of this city, meticulous infrastructure design that takes into account natural hazards is prudent. Related to that issue, The Indonesian Center for Earthquake Studies published an earthquake deaggregation map in 2022, based on a 100–10,000-year return period. Since earthquakes will provide dominant effect on liquefaction potential, a reanalysis of the previous liquefaction map is necessary. This study was conducted to carry out a quantitative analysis of liquefaction potential in Cilacap using the earthquake deaggregation maps. The potential of liquefaction occurrence was determined by liquefaction potential index (LPI), calculated from cyclic resistance ratio (CRR) and cyclic stress ratio (CSR). Prior to LPI calculation, CRR and CSR values were computed from cone penetration test (CPT) and earthquake properties data, respectively. The result of this study suggested that the southern part of Cilacap is classified as high liquefaction potential, indicated by higher value of LPI. It substantiated that the reanalysis map shows a similar interpretation to the previous liquefaction map, even though it was developed from the new earthquake deaggregation map. This result serve better insight to develop resilient infrastructure in Cilacap against potential natural disaster issue, especially liquefaction.
