Documentation of Some Almost Extinct Motifs, Weaving Techniques and Tools of Tangail Handloom Sari of Bangladesh

Tangail handloom sari holds a special place in the hearts of the sari enthusiasts due to their long-standing tradition and rich weaving history. The Tangail weavers have been intertwining comfortable sari weaved by their own legacy they are enduring till today. But the present scenario of this handloom industry is threatened by the expansion of power loom. For this reason our living heritage is becoming extinct day by day. The aim of this research is to document the Tangail handloom sari motifs, its weaving process, and also the weaving tools used for interlacing this particular genre of sari. For this research, the study area is Tangail district of Bangladesh which is well known as Tangail sari hub. The primary data have been collected from the field by conducting interviews, Focus Group Discussions, and observation. Besides this, the secondary data have been gathered from various texts, academic articles, journals, websites related to this research. This research has tried to document the traditional motifs, the weaving techniques, and the weaving tools so that the glorious past of this living heritage can be preserved.
