Nevertheless, the progress of biofuels derived from this biomass faces numerous economic, regulatory, and technological obstacles, especially concerning elevated production costs and the intricate nature of adhering to diverse sustainability regulations. Innovations in conversion technologies, such as Simultaneous Saccharification and Co-Fermentation (SSCF) and Consolidated Bioprocessing (CBP), are vital for improving the efficiency of processing lignocellulosic materials. This chapter aims to delineate the current economic policies that support biofuel development, analyze the specific challenges faced, and provide recommendations to enhance the feasibility of lignocellulosic biofuels within the renewable energy sector.
