This chapter examines the role of time in the production of knowledge from four distinct yet interconnected perspectives. It begins by exploring how we construct spaces of knowing, particularly laboratories, and the significance of their materiality in shaping what and how we know. The focus then shifts to research practices, considering how they align with or are influenced by various modes and perceptions of time. The third perspective brings attention to the temporalities embedded in the objects and subjects of knowledge production. Finally, the chapter discusses the temporal complexities involved in addressing societal challenges through research. Taking these perspectives together shows that the re-timing of academic research not just is a question of social organization of research but has a considerable impact on how and what we can know.
