The chapter introduces the classes of aerospaceplanes (ASP) and hypersonic aircraft (HA), shows how to estimate their flight envelope, predict their flight trajectories, and how to estimate the thermal and acoustic loads imposed on these aircraft. The chapter also discusses how to design and optimize ASP and HA, based on the requirements specifications. The chapter analyses the principles of aerodynamic and thermal design of ASP and HA and discusses their thermal protection.
