Design Features of Short and Vertical Take-Off and Landing Aircraft
摘要
The chapter starts by justifying the short-and vertical take-off and landing aircraft (S/VTOL). The chapter offers equations for the analysis of the performance of S/VTOL. The chapter also provides a categorization and brief description of powered high-lift devices intended to facilitate short take-off and landing. In addition, the reader will find some information on passive, active, and combined boundary layer control methods. The chapter discusses some problems of VTOL aircraft design and ways to solve them, the features of VTOL layouts, as well as how to determine the basic design parameters of a VTOL aircraft, including the thrust-to-weight ratio, wing loading, and gross weight.
