SEAform’s Modular Floating Platforms: A Comprehensive Environmental Impact Evaluation
摘要
The rising sea level and scarcity of available land in rapidly growing coastal cities have led to the necessity of expanding towards water, in a process known as land reclamation. This market has been primarily dominated by dredging, which leads to marine and coastal ecosystems degradation. In order to meet the demand of land reclamation for different purposes, while also aiming to reduce the resultant environmental effects, the SEAform project introduces an alternative approach to dredging, using multi-use interconnected modular floating platforms. This study aims to evaluate the potential environmental impacts associated with the floating platforms developed by SEAform through a comparative analysis with the effects of dredging alongside an evaluation of the platforms’ carbon footprint. The analysis reveals the environmental advantages of floating platforms, illustrating their significantly lower impact compared to traditional dredging techniques. By comprehensively understanding its environmental impact, the SEAform project can effectively and progressively mitigate its effects on the marine ecosystem, positioning itself as an environmentally conscious choice for coastal development and offshore strategies.
