The “museumification” of mathematics involves restoring often forgotten links with individuals’ everyday life; it also implies revealing, through material objects and images, a network of invisible conceptual threads. The technical and conceptual challenges of this task are addressed in this proposal, which concerns the recovery of a humanistic approach to mathematics and the architectural set up of paths to abstraction in museums and exhibitions. The Inclusive Memory project had the aim of promoting the creation of a common and shared social memory, achieved through a social inclusion system that involves the museum. Within the Inclusive Memory project, an in-depth study of mathematics education and mathematical museum exhibitions was carried out to identify possible educational best practices with a view to promoting social and cultural inclusion, as well as STEAM education. The involvement of museums in social development is built through envisaging the museum space as an educational place, where every social category (regardless of differences in age, cultural level, social status) manages to interact with it and to enhance skills such as critical thinking, communication, cooperation, acquisition and interpretation of information. This contribution describes the results of the experience carried out with a group of museum educators.
