The mechanical behaviour of a painting is described by three main elements: the stretcher, the canvas and the paint layers. We provide a mathematical model for this mechanical system, which includes the effects of stretching and shrinking by changes in relative humidity and temperature, and which allows the paint layer to deform elastically and possibly crack. For numerical simulations we employ a (stabilized) phase-field approach with adaptive mesh refinement. Local patterns are simulated making reference to classifications in the literature and to real life patterns.

摘要

The mechanical behaviour of a painting is described by three main elements: the stretcher, the canvas and the paint layers. We provide a mathematical model for this mechanical system, which includes the effects of stretching and shrinking by changes in relative humidity and temperature, and which allows the paint layer to deform elastically and possibly crack. For numerical simulations we employ a (stabilized) phase-field approach with adaptive mesh refinement. Local patterns are simulated making reference to classifications in the literature and to real life patterns.
