Over the past few decades, the adoption of educational technology has changed the lives of students and teachers enabling the tech-based learning environment at both ends. The present study unveils the current trends and insights into the adoption of educational technology in higher education using a bibliometric review of the literature extracted from the two worlds’ renowned databases such as Scopus and Web of Science (WoS) through the bibliometric package of R programming language called “bibliomatrix().” A step-by-step process was followed to download the published literature on technology adoption in higher education, viz., extracting and shortlisting applicable literature based on well-identified keywords, using filters to extract only relevant articles, and selecting bibliometric and network mapping tools for review analysis. The findings unveil a comprehensive thought process of the trends, techniques, and methodologies involved in educational technology adoption, urging the significance of continued research and expansion in the field of technology adoption in higher education. Further, the findings suggest the need for conducting longitudinal studies to evaluate the long-term impact of educational technology on the learning of the students and practices followed by the institutions. The review also emphasizes the interdisciplinary landscape of the domain, with collaborations across education, computer science, and psychology. The present research provides valuable visions for researchers, educators, and policymakers to grasp the evolving landscape of educational technology, especially in higher education, and to escort future research and policy decisions.
