Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria for Mitigation of Environmental Stresses

One of the progressively growing global threats to agriculture is climate change, which leads to enhanced environmental stresses and consequently lower crop yield. Among the number of available approaches, use of PGPR is regarded as a viable, economical, and eco-friendly solution for minimizing the effect of environmental stressors and enhancing crop production. They can work directly by synthesizing the compounds with the ability to mitigate the effect of stress, or indirectly by triggering the responses related to the plant immune system. The current chapter will describe the PGPR strains effectively in use for various abiotic and biotic stresses and their mechanism of action for helping plants to thrive under changing climatic conditions.
