The large diversity of different ABS qualities in use, as well as growing concerns surrounding and restrictions on legacy additives, complicates the transition to circularity for this material. Therefore, traceability approaches enabling retrieval of information at the product and material levels will play an important role in this transition. This manuscript explores existing product identification and traceability systems in use today and assesses their feasibility for the value chains of different ABS products by using a systematic literature review methodology. This research aims to create a solid knowledge foundation for how to implement traceability and the potential benefits through the value chains for ABS plastic and explore how a traceability system for ABS value chain actors should be designed, identifying, and addressing challenges.
