State-of-the-Art Knowledge in Industry 4.0-Enabling Technology Adoption Challenges in Assembly-Line Manufacturing: A Cognitive Ergonomics Perspective

Enabling technologies provide independence from sole human intervention in manufacturing operations. However, manufacturing sectors in developing countries fail to rigorously adopt digital technologies, due to the lack of consideration of the human component. The study aims to highlight research gaps from the cognitive ergonomics perspective in the technology adoption process in emerging countries’ assembly manufacturing systems. A scoping review has been conducted following the PRISMA framework to identify factors affecting the cognitive capabilities of the assembly-line operators for successful technology adoptions. An extensive study has been presented to identify existing adoption barriers, implementation patterns, influencing factors, and required skills for technology adoption, focusing on providing a comprehensive overview of the assembly manufacturing sector. The current review would benefit budding researchers by allowing them to take their research forward in the domain of cognitive ergonomics by addressing the identified research gaps.
