The landscape of personalized ergonomic footwear design and production has been reshaped by the integration of 3D graphics and technological progress. With a shift toward customer-centric products, the potential of additive manufacturing has surged in the realm of personalized footwear, driven by benefits like cost-effective customization, no economies of scale, and the ability to craft highly intricate shapes. This innovative process entails the fabrication of 3D-printed footwear based on digital models derived from precise measurements and biomechanical data sourced from the foot’s anatomical and topological features. Despite this progress, a comprehensive analysis of recent developments, including material selection and future prospects in the realm of 3D-printed personalized footwear, is notably absent in the existing literature. As such, this article aims to present an in-depth systematic literature review from an ergonomic standpoint, encompassing significant strides made in the field of 3D-printed shoes and outlining promising avenues for future research.
