With the speedy updates and emergence of technologies, there are various new tools that can be used for contemporary participatory research for arts and design, as well as for art making and design production. At the same time, the art and design ideas co-created in empirical participatory research can inform the future design of technologies. In this research, we have specifically probed into the uses of technology in participatory research of interpersonal communication and in arts and design co-creations. We have also explored how the co-created artifacts can inform the future designs of media technologies for communication. The research has adopted qualitative methods including observation, participatory workshops, and structured interviews for collecting data, and has conducted content analysis of the collected data. The research findings indicate the possibility of integrating the utilisation of various technologies in arts and design practices, including research and making. The research insights have potentials to contribute to the fields of arts and design education.
