Aesthetic Understanding of Urban Leisure Sports Landscapes: The Intervention of Art and Design in the Application of Map Techniques
The recent discursive shift framing urban leisure sports (ULS) as critical urban design elements reflects bodily engagement with built environments and relational aesthetics in participatory placemaking. The behaviours of ULS participants revealed that art and design (A&D) mediate the moving tracks through map techniques, thereby enabling ULS to become distinctive and aesthetically appealing urban landscapes. The landscapes exist in urban space and online communities, facilitating public health and urban vitality. However, in the field of A&D research, the aesthetic potential of ULS landscapes has yet to receive academic attention. This study presents a research framework for the aesthetic understanding of the ULS landscapes, providing a basis for intervention of A&D into human–urban relations. A qualitative research method is employed, with data collected from the community and social media. It would provide a reference for facilitators engaged in fields of urban, sports, and public design.
