Cinematic Virtual Reality Design Framework for Inducing Empathy Toward Persons with Dementia in Singapore
摘要
Singapore, one of the fastest-ageing countries, has an estimated 40,000 older adults above 60 living with dementia. Caregiving for persons with dementia (PWD) is crucial and directly impacts their quality of life. Caregivers often feel overwhelmed due to the challenging symptoms of dementia. While there are community action plans to empower caregivers, there is limited focus on programs aimed explicitly at fostering empathy towards PWD and understanding its impact on caregivers. To address this gap, this study proposes a design conceptual framework for Cinematic-VR Experiences (CVRE) designed to induce empathy towards PWD among Singapore’s dementia caregivers. This framework aims to guide future CVRE designs. The findings of this study represent an early step in understanding dementia caregiving and offer valuable insights into ways to enhance the quality of life for both PWD and their caregivers through the use of CVRE.
