Taking Technology and Game to Persian Language Classrooms
摘要
This chapter describes the advantages of using technology and game in language learning and teaching. Computer and Internet are the most common forms of technology in language teaching and learning. Technology plays a major role in course management and teaching. Language teachers could also use technology in their classroom to develop the binding among students and meet their emotional needs. In addition to technology, games could also be used as techniques or activities to facilitate language learning. Games can influence students’ motivations, boost their participation, and impact their affective traits. Herein, it is argued that despite all benefits of using technology and games in language teaching and learning, they should be considered as an aid in language teaching and as such used cautiously. For example, as the affective factors and students’ personal characteristics as well as social/cultural constrains impact language learning, these variables should be taken into consideration before applying technology and game in classes. The traditional chalk and talk teaching and pen-and-paper writing are discussed to show why the tried and tested methods should still be preserved as an asset in the field of language teaching and learning.
