Ergonomic Re-designing of the Driver’s Space in Buses: A Study on Bus Rapid Transit System, Ahmedabad, India
摘要
The sedentary nature of the Bus Rapid Transit system (BRTS) driver's job in Ahmedabad demands urgent attention due to its impact on comfort, health, and efficiency. Spending around 16 h daily in fixed positions, drivers face potential health issues and reduced road concentration. This study focuses on enhancing the ergonomic aspects of the driver's space in BRTS vehicles, specifically seats, controls, and cabin layout. By prioritizing driver well-being, we aim to optimize performance and overall safety. Methodologically, we conduct a comprehensive examination using observational analysis and driver feedback to identify critical areas for improvement. Findings contribute to practical solutions, aiming to reduce physical and mental strain on drivers and designed ergonomic enhancements in seats, controls, and cabin layout to promote driver health and efficiency and improve overall BRTS safety and passenger journey experience. This research addresses the pressing need for ergonomic improvements in Ahmedabad’s BRTS driver's space. Thorough methodology and practical solutions contribute to driver well-being, safety, and the overall journey experience.
