An Ergonomic Study on Postural Stance in Office Workers of West Bengal
摘要
Occupational work place hazard is an aspect of recent concern of ergonomics and occupational physiology in its long-term and short-term effects on office workers. A predominantly desk-bound job can lead to a sedentary lifestyle, which can be associated with obesity, and other health problems. Furthermore, prolonged periods of sitting in static posture, and poor ergonomic workstation can all contribute to Work-related Musculo-skeletal problems (WMSPs) in office workers using computer workstation. Thence, the present ergonomic study was carried out on 50 male office workers in West Bengal who were interviewed for their prevalence of somatic pain using Modified Nordic questionnaire, Body Part Discomfort Scale and posture analysis method. Additionally, the body fat composition assessment was also performed. Study found a substantial preponderance of high body fat percentages, which was a clear indicator towards obesity. Moreover, early symptoms of WMSPs were found to be significantly correlated with BMI along with the awkward working postures of office workers.
