As the world continues to evolve, there is a noticeable increase in the prevalence of mental health issues, which in turn places a growing burden on mental health service providers. This research paper is dedicated to a thorough examination of the cognitive load experienced by these professionals due to the escalating number of patients seeking care. To gain insights and assess the perspectives of doctors, nurses, patients, and patients’ families, comprehensive field surveys were conducted across four different hospitals, asylums, and clinics that provide these services. Employing a mixed-method data collection approach involving questionnaires, interviews, and observations, various key problems were identified. We performed a thorough hierarchical task analysis of psychiatric nurses, and it was unveiled that one of the most critical hurdles they face is ensuring the accurate identification and distribution of medications to the correct patient. Occasionally this can even lead to error in providing medication to the patient which can have adverse effects on patients’ health and safety. To reduce the chances of the error, possible intervention ideas have been proposed.
