Dementia and Midlife: Risk for the Future Ageing Population
摘要
The study examines the growing elderly population in India, along with an expected rise in dementia prevalence. It addresses stigma around ageing and aims to raise awareness of overlooked midlife risk factors and changes linked to cognitive decline and dementia. The study follows the 5-stage design thinking process. Data collected from 89 survey responses and 24 interviews (ages 45–65 years) was analysed and synthesized to define the problem and conceptualize a solution. The proposed solution is a board game called “Tree of Life” that initiates conversations and helps individuals understand cognitive changes by connecting them to personal experiences. The game is designed to test and keep each cognitive domain active during its gameplay. After being tested with 24 users, the solution received a post-evaluation rating of 4.3/5. Overall, the study emphasizes the importance of cognitive health and provides a board game solution to raise awareness and support cognitive well-being.
